Jingdezhen In-Glaze Blue-and-White Peony Gongfu Tea Set
▪ BESPOKE ARCHIVAL PACKAGING WITH EVERY ACQUISITION
This nine-piece gongfu tea set is crafted in Jingdezhen from translucent high-white porcelain. It features a traditional blue-and-white peony motif, a design long associated with prosperity in Chinese decorative arts. The set centers around a lidded gaiwan and includes a brewing tray, a dedicated lid rest, a yashou-style master cup, and four tasting cups.
The floral motifs are applied using an in-glaze transfer decoration technique. Fired at high temperatures, the blue ceramic decoration becomes integrated with the glaze. This process produces a smooth, clear surface over the motif, ensuring the decoration is durable and easy to rinse after use.
The forms are designed for the practical steps of a tea session. The larger master cup adopts the classic yashou (press-hand) profile, featuring a flared rim and weighted base that rests securely in the palm. The 17.5 cm brewing tray (hucheng) provides a dry stage to catch minor spills, while the separate lid rest keeps the table organized.
