Jingdezhen Silk Road Porcelain Plate

Porcelain is both the material and the subject of this contemporary Jingdezhen plate. Named Silk Road, the design presents ceramics as one of the languages through which ideas, techniques, and taste travelled between East and West.

Jingdezhen anchors the central composition. Around it, framed scenes extend the narrative through seven other ceramic centers named in the design: Meissen, Limoges, Iznik, Arita, Delft, Hamadan, and Sukhothai. By placing those names around one porcelain field, the design turns the plate into a map of exchange rather than an illustration of one voyage.

The dense linework gives a place setting unusual narrative depth, while the blue-and-white palette keeps the composition coherent. Used at the table, it turns an individual course into part of the design.
