The Shangping carries a history of recognition. The Palace Museum traces the form to the Yongzheng reign, when lotus-decorated examples were presented to officials as an encouragement toward qinglian, or honest service. Its long neck, rounded shoulders, and steady lower body gave the reward vessel a formal but approachable presence.

This contemporary Qianlong-style Jingdezhen interpretation replaces the more familiar blue-and-white lotus program with doucai peony and lotus. Underglaze cobalt establishes the structure; overglaze enamels bring the flowers forward in color, allowing line and fill to remain visibly distinct on the same porcelain surface.

Ruyi forms and floral scrolls organize the neck and shoulder, while peonies and lotus vines carry the main body. At 32 cm, the vase is large enough to hold a cabinet or console, yet close enough for the two-stage decoration to be read line by line.
