Characterized by a flaring mouth, a long neck, and a globular body, the shangping form became associated with imperial presentation and court display during the Qing dynasty. This Qianlong-style vase provides a wide, continuous canvas for dense floral motifs, balancing classical structure with the rich color palette of 18th-century porcelain.

The surface is executed using the traditional doucai technique, combining underglaze cobalt outlines with overglaze enamels. Artisans first outline the intricate floral motifs in cobalt blue on the unfired porcelain body. After a high-temperature firing, these outlined spaces are carefully filled with vibrant enamels and fired a second time at a lower temperature. The blue outlines remain crisp beneath the enamel colors, keeping the layered floral decoration clear across the curved surface.

The principal decoration features blooming peonies—a traditional emblem of prosperity—set among continuous intertwining lotus vines. The central scene is framed by structured secondary borders: ruyi-head borders around the shoulder, lotus-petal bands supporting the lower body, and a classic key-fret border grounding the foot ring. A narrow gilt band defines the flared rim and provides a restrained contrast to the enamel decoration.
