Dehua Porcelain Guanyin Seated in Royal Ease

This Guanyin is not arranged in strict frontal meditation. One knee rises, the torso shifts gently to the side, and the arm settles into an open, unforced posture above the lotus base. The small vase at the center keeps the asymmetry balanced.

The posture is known as royal ease. Originating in Indian sculpture, it became especially popular in China during the Song dynasty, where it gave Guanyin an unusual combination of majesty and approachability. This Dehua interpretation carries that history through the relaxed asymmetry of the pose.

Guanyin is revered for hearing calls for help and answering suffering with compassion. In the royal-ease pose, calm is not withdrawal: the open body and relaxed arm suggest a presence ready to respond. For a devotee, the figure can hold prayers for mercy, household peace and protection in uncertain moments while serving as a daily reminder to meet others with patience.
