Jingdezhen Cobalt Floral Linglong Tianqiu Vase

The rounded body and straight cylindrical neck establish the Tianqiu silhouette at once. Across the white porcelain, cobalt floral medallions, leaves and blessing characters are spaced between hand-worked linglong windows, allowing the surface to remain open despite the number of motifs.

Christie’s traces the tianqiuping form to the Yongle period and notes that it continued during the Xuande reign. The present Jingdezhen vase retains the globular body and upright neck while bringing in-glaze blue decoration and translucent linglong work together across one open, luminous surface.

British Museum records describe Jingdezhen rice-grain porcelain made with patterned openings filled with glaze. Here, the related linglong effect creates pale floral windows that become more visible against light, adding a second layer to the cobalt design. Blessing characters and floral medallions make the compact Tianqiu a meaningful new-home or milestone gift, while backlighting turns the craft itself into part of the display.
