Jingdezhen In-Glaze Blue Peony Scroll Porcelain Display Plate

This contemporary Jingdezhen display plate begins with a celebrated Yuan-dynasty blue-and-white meiping in the collection of the Jingdezhen China Ceramics Museum. Rather than reproducing the vase itself, the design carries its interlaced peony scroll into a new format: the outline of a vessel remains at the foot of the plate while flowers and vines unfold across the open porcelain field.

The blue decoration is set within the glaze, giving the cobalt forms a clear, settled presence against the white porcelain. A narrow gold-toned line follows the rim, adding a controlled edge of light without interrupting the composition.

Peonies have long been associated in Chinese art with prosperity, honor and a flourishing household. Here the motif is not confined to a central medallion. It moves outward, linking flower, leaf and stem into one continuous design and giving the plate enough visual reach to stand alone in a contemporary room.

The two forms change the character of the same pattern. Round feels composed and continuous; octagonal introduces a more architectural silhouette. At approximately 35 cm across, both are substantial enough for a console, sideboard or display cabinet while remaining focused as a single object.
