Jingdezhen Hand-Carved Porcelain Gongfu Tea Set: Distant Mountains
▪ BESPOKE ARCHIVAL PACKAGING WITH EVERY ACQUISITION
This six-vessel gongfu tea set, comprising a gaiwan, a sharing pitcher, and four tasting cups, is crafted in Jingdezhen from high-white porcelain. The exterior of each vessel features a hand-carved relief landscape of distant mountain ridges, referencing the spatial depth of traditional Chinese landscape painting.
Artisans carve the mountain motifs directly into the unfired porcelain body. After carving, the pieces are glazed and fired above 1280°C. The high-temperature firing produces a dense porcelain body and smooth glazed surfaces that are easy to rinse after use.
The set is proportioned for gongfu tea service. The 150 ml gaiwan features a flared rim and a concave lid knob to assist with handling, while the 220 ml sharing pitcher has a pointed spout shaped to concentrate the pour. The set is available in two finishes: Pure White uses a clear glaze over the white porcelain body, allowing light and shadow to define the carved relief, while Yingqing uses a pale bluish-white glaze that settles more visibly within the carved recesses, creating a soft tonal contrast under light.
