Yixing Pear-Skin Da Hong Pao Xu Bian Teapot

Xu Bian is a study in compression. The body spreads wide and low, yet the curve remains lifted through the shoulder and foot, giving the teapot tension rather than the appearance of a collapsed sphere.

The 170 ml capacity keeps this broad architecture intimate enough for gongfu tea. A straight spout and high loop handle extend from opposite sides, making the silhouette feel longer while leaving the low lid and central body visually uninterrupted.

Pear-skin Da Hong Pao clay supplies the color and surface movement. Fine grains catch the light across the unglazed red body, making the material legible without carved decoration or glossy finish.

The difficulty of Xu Bian is visible in its proportions: the vessel sits only 6.5 cm high yet remains taut, balanced and deliberate. On a narrow tea stage, that horizontal line creates presence without blocking the view across the table.
