Longquan Celadon Meiping Vase with Fine Crackle Glaze

The Meiping earns its presence through a precise change of direction. A small mouth opens into broad high shoulders, then the body narrows steadily toward the foot. In celadon, that silhouette gives a pale glaze enough uninterrupted surface to hold a room without added pattern.

Longquan kilns in Zhejiang became one of the defining centers of Chinese celadon. A Southern Song Longquan Meiping preserved by The Metropolitan Museum of Art shows how closely this vessel type and green glaze have been connected across centuries. The present vase carries that enduring Longquan relationship between high-shouldered form and celadon surface into contemporary display.

The glaze moves from cool celadon blue-green to warmer gathering around the curves, crossed by a fine crackle network visible at close range. The 31 cm size works as a cabinet or console anchor; the 40 cm size has enough scale to stand alone on a low plinth or broad sideboard.

Its high shoulders hold a modern interior from across the room, while the fine crackle and shifts in the celadon glaze reward a second look at arm's length. The history gives the form context; the curve and glaze make it convincing to live with now.
